A Recital for Voice and Piano

Two Isle of Wight natives team to perform a special recital after 11 years of performing on different stages. Adam Richardson, a 2005 Smithfield High School and Governor’s School for the Arts graduate, is rapidly gaining acclaim as a multi-talented baritone for his powerful operatic, concert, and theatre performances. Mr. Richardson most recently was seen as Sciarrone in the opera Tosca. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2009, and his Masters from The Juilliard School in 2011.

​Noted Smithfield pianist, and the music teacher at Hardy Elementary School, Alison Chapman, will be the collaborating artist for this homecoming recital.

The Tidewater Cello Ensemble
Directed by Susan and Erin Hines
 
Formed in 1998 in order to play at Chrysler Hall preceding Yo-Yo Ma’s performance, this student ensemble has played to great acclaim in Washington, D. C. as well as locally. Students from throughout Hampton Roads rehearse weekly to polish their rich burnished ensemble sound. We are relying on you to come and enjoy this delightful cello ensemble. Your generous support for this fundraiser will allow Sundays at Four to continue to present top-quality programming in the Historic District of Smithfield.

The Daraja Ensemble
 
The Daraja Ensemble, in residence at the University of Maryland, will delight the audience with all French fare for this standard woodwind quintet: flute, clarinet, oboe, French horn and bassoon. With a goal to spread their love of music through out-reach projects, the Daraja’s recent performing and teaching initiative took them to Tanzania. We look forward to hearing about their African adventure. These professional performers can be heard playing as soloists and in various performance configurations throughout the world.

Solo Youth Recital
 
Bradley Fielding, Baritone
 
Bradley Fielding has already received outstanding reviews in his home state of Virginia. A 2015 Terrific Teen Talent recitalist, Mr. Fielding impressed his audience with his excellent voice and wonderful delivery of art songs and opera arias. Now a sophomore at Northwestern University studying vocal performance, we look forward to his return to perform a full recital. A native of Smithfield, Bradley first discovered his love for singing in the 2008 production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer at the Smithfield Little Theatre. He is a 2015 graduate of Smithfield High School and the Governor’s School for the Arts and continues to sing leading roles for the Tidewater Opera Initiative in Norfolk.

Piano Master Class (open to all ages)
 Marvin Blickenstaff, Pianist, Clinician
 
Mr. Blickenstaff will conduct two master class sessions for students of all ages. Since 1999, he has directed the Program for Excellence in Piano Study (PEPS) at the New School at Princeton and is on the faculty of Westminster Choir College in NJ. Mr. Blickenstaff holds degrees from The Oberlin Conservatory of Music and from Indiana University where he received both academic and performance honors. This master teacher has experience sure to add insight to those wishing to have a ‘public’ one-on-one piano lesson.

The Richmond Concert Chorale, an auditioned group of singers, will delight our audience with a program of varied repertoire all sung to honor the memory of Evelyn Laine Yeoman Crider, who for many years was the Organist/Music Director at Benn’s Methodist Church. This concert is sponsored by her daughters, Anne Yeoman and Connie Yeoman Henderson.

Dr. Ruth Winters, Piano
 
Dr. Kathleen Winters performed an all-American program of music for flute together with her mother, Dr. Ruth Winters as collaborating artist. Flutist Kathleen Winters, a Newport News native, is in demand as a performer, teacher, clinician, and adjudicator. She was recently named a semi-finalist in the prestigious Concert Artist Guild Competition. The deciding recital will be in October.
