Classes are held if the minimum number of students specified by the instructor are enrolled; most classes also have a maximum enrollment. We suggest you sign up early.
Class fees are due no later than the first day of class and payable to the Isle of Wight Arts League. Materials fees are included in the class fee unless indicated otherwise in the class description.
Parents / guardians: For safety considerations, you must accompany your child into the Arts Center at the beginning of class and pick up your child from the Center. Children will only be released from the Center to a parent or guardian.
Pastel Drawing January - March, 2020 Wednesdays, 1:00 to 3:30 pm Instructor: Emily Christoff Flowers This class is designed for the student with some background in drawing or painting. Students will learn about the fundamental materials and techniques of working in pastel on a variety of papers, while more experienced students will progress to a new level with individual instruction. The focus of the class will be on materials, techniques, design, subject matter and personal expression. January 29: Drawing with pastel on Canson tinted pastel paper February 19:Drawing with pastel on textured homemade sanded board February 26:Drawing with pastel on velour paper March 4: Drawing with pastel over a completed watercolor painting Students may work from their own original photographs, still life set ups, drawings or their imagination. Class fee per class is $35 for members, $40 for non-members, sign up by Saturday before desired class. Materials list available.
March Travel Journal Watercolor Workshop March 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2020 Saturdays from 10am-noon Instructor Barbara Lively Mastaglio If you feel your creativity flowing while away from home or regular art classes but can't imagine hauling the supplies in your luggage or your beach bag, a travel journal is the way to go! It requires less bulky gear, less supplies and all the best to capture your travel experiences. Learn to fill a page with complete sketches, thoughtful writings, water colors and beautiful borders too! No experience required. Ages 16+ Space is limited to 15 participants. Cost for Members is $65 for members, $75 for non-members. Register by March 3, 2020 to reserve your space. Contact Arts Center for list of supplies to bring.
Alcohol Ink Doodle March 8, 2020, Sunday 2 to 4 pm Or March 12th, Thursday 6:30 to 8:30 pm Instructor: Tammy Burgett Use alcohol inks to create the background on Yupo paper, then doodle on top with black or colored inks. You’ll be able to create 2-3 different piece, as time allows. This workshop for students ages 16 and up of all skill levels. The Inks do stain, bring protective apron or wear ‘painting clothes’. All materials supplied by instructor (yupo paper, 25+ colors of alcohol ink. many colors plus metallic markers for doodling). Class Fee $40 for member/$50 for non-members of Isle of Wight Arts League, plus a materials fee of $10. Register by March 5th to reserve your space for the class on the 8th, by March 10 for the class on the 12th.
Fused Glass - Kilncarving April 19, 2020 Sunday 1 to 3:30 pm Instructor: Georgette Phillips Introductory class in a technique that creates the appearance that part of the glass surface has been carved away. Students will create one 4” x 8” and two 4” x 4” glass tiles to display as sun-catchers. No prior fusing or glass cutting experience required. All Materials included in the class price. Instructor will fire the pieces and return your complete art to the arts center for pickup one week after class. Class Fee: $60 for members, $70 for non-members. Register by April 17th to reserve your space. Class will be offered again Sunday, May 17th.
Poppy Field May 9, 2020 Saturday 10 am to 1 pm Instructor: Barbara Lively Mastaglio Enjoy creating your own landscape masterpiece on an 11 x 14 canvas! We'll use acrylic paints and palette knives to give lots of texture. This is a make it and take it 3 hour workshop for students ages 16 and up of all skill levels. Class Fee is $65 members/$75 non-members plus Materials Fee of $12 which covers canvases, paint and the use of all tools provided by instructor. Register by May 7th to reserve your space
Open Paint Studio Tuesdays 10 am to 2 pm Arts Center @ 319 classroom on every Tuesday. Arts League member artists bring in their current projects in various mediums and work without instruction. Enjoy the camaraderie of fellow painters and share tips and personal experiences from your art journeys. Arrive and depart at your convenience. Room comfortably accommodates 8 painters seated at tables.
Self-improvement for 2020 Discover Your Style One-on-one personal sessions with award winning artist Cil Barbour scheduled at your convenience. Begin a painting using your own reference photos or complete a painting with assistance from an experienced artist who can help you put your vision to canvas. Learn exactly what you need to know about techniques, composition and materials. Fee is $15/hour for IWAL members and $25/hour for non-members. Set a schedule that fits you.
